How To Turn Your Rock Band Into a Success - Free 12 Day Mini Course
Lesson 1

Welcome to Lesson 1! To put you on the right path for success, we need to first take a look at where your band stands in this moment and look into things that cause you frustrations, perhaps some hopelessness, and general unhappiness with your band and your music success. Why is this important? Only when you are able to clearly identify the things that stand in your band's way of success, you can begin to form a solid plan and take action to remove them.

Imagine how much more fun and fulfillment you and your band mates will experience after you eliminate the problems you are dealing with now. Plus your band can achieve what you want once these burdens are behind you.

Fact is, every band has a huge list of things that they feel is holding them back. Each band member probably can list a lot of things blaming someone else in the band. “So and so doesn’t give any money.” “I’m putting everything I have into this, and I’m the only one.” “Dorkface is scaring off promoters.” “The Drummer’s girlfriend thinks she’s running the show.” And the list goes on and on.

We want you to remember one thing here. You are a band. Do you know what that means? You are a group of people united together for a common goal. You are a business entity by law, each taking legal responsibility for each other. You are equal partners in a joint venture that is dead set on helping each other reach for the stars and hopefully grab a few to keep. Whether you like it or not, you are in this together.

So, now that we can put all the blame aside, what we want you to do is sit down together as a band, take a few pens and paper, think about the following questions and write down what you feel like is holding you back.

Is it something about yourself?
Something specific about the way you interact or talk about issues with each other?
Is it conflicting goals?
Conflicting values?
Conflicting personalities?
Are you the right group of people to band together and unite over a common goal?
No one likes your music?
Are you all shy and can’t get the attention of a promoter?
Do you have no product?
No recorded music to help you get shows and to sell to potential fans?
Is there one of those “if only we had this, then we could…” statements?
What is it that is holding you back?

List your top 3 answers below. If you feel that 3 isn’t enough room, then try and chisel it down to your few most pressing issues. Be very specific. If you feel that it’s someone in the band, what about them is the real problem? Get to the root of the problem. You can’t expect to solve a big problem without knowing the details. You may even be surprised to find out that it isn’t a big problem after all.

What frustrations or obstacles are at the top of your list?

Now let’s flip your focus a bit. What are the top 3 things that you want out of solving those issues?

1.
2.
3.

Now for one more list. This one will be fun, because you can actually do something with it. List the first 3 steps, the most powerful and simplest actions that you can do right now to begin eliminating what has been standing in your way.

1.
2.
3.

Spend some time on filling out each of these lists, and really think about them. If you do, you will find yourself not only beginning to find the right tools for the challenge ahead, but also beginning to take steps forward towards your dreams.

Think long and hard. Think about this together. Brain storm. Be 100% completely honest about yourself to the other band members. You may even want to revisit the lists above and do them over again. Don’t place blame on someone else, rather look at yourself and what reactions and actions you have direct control over. Remember that you are in this together.

Most importantly, act on those things. These are your dreams, your treasures that we’re talking about. You are in this together, and you are determined to make it happen. Take those 3 steps right now. They are the first steps towards reaching your musical goals as a band.

In the next lesson, we will talk about how the record industry actually works now (there have been big changes recently). This insight will enable you to better position yourself for success. In addition we are going to help you get really clear about what your specific goals as a band are so that we can build the foundation to create specific plans to achieve them in future lessons.

In addition to your lessons in this free mini course, another key area you and your band need to develop is your Rock Band Stage Presence. Alex Staropoli, Draven Grey and I will take you through this process now when you click here.
