What is your general way to teach beginning guitar students? *

I work with them through a specific beginner book.
I created my own teaching materials that I use for all my beginner students.
I use my own teaching materials with different beginner students, depending on what the student wants to do.

What is the MAIN method you use to get beginning guitar students to practice their guitar consistently? *

I talk about practicing, but I think the best way to get beginning guitar students to practice is by enabling them to actually 'play' the guitar as quickly as possible.
I don't want to put any pressure on them to practice, so I don't talk much about practicing. They'll do it on their own if they are serious students.
I begin by explaining the importance of consistent practicing. Next, I give my students a written practice schedule and then I tell them to follow it.
None of the above. There are better ways to get the majority of beginning guitar students to practice consistently.

What is the 'main way' that you motivate and inspire your total beginner level guitar students? *

I inspire and motivate my total beginners by giving them a lot of positive reinforcement as I talk to them about their progress.
I focus on getting my total beginner students to play right away so that they feel inspired and motivated.
I don't 'actively' do anything to motivate or inspire my students.
I try to inspire and motivate all my students in the same way.

How long do most of your beginning guitar students continue to take lessons from you? *

When do you teach beginning students what they 'want' to learn and when do you teach them what they 'need' to learn? *

In my lessons I often alternate teaching them things they 'want' to learn with things they 'need' to learn.
I teach my students whatever they 'want' to learn. They are paying for the lessons, therefore I should only teach them what they want to learn.
I make a deal with my students. I tell them that I will teach them what they 'want' to learn after they learn and practice what they 'need' to learn.
I explain that what they need to learn 'is' what they want to learn because it directly relates to the student's own goals.

How do you know what your beginning students' goals are on the guitar? *

I don't think about what their specific goals are.
I don't need to know what their goals are, I know what to teach them anyway.
I ask them what their goals are and teach them based on what they tell me.

When teaching beginning guitar students, do you always know what to teach, how to teach it and when to teach each item in the best order? *

Yes, I work with beginner books and follow the methods and materials described there.

Holding (or enhancing) the student's interest in playing guitar.
