Even if you suddenly had 8 hours per day to practice but were still trapped by even 1 of those 5 things, your progress would still be limited.
However, if you never practice a single minute more than you do now but broke free from all 5, progress will be through the roof… and I’ll prove it to you in a few moments.
Deadly Trap #1: Majoring In Minor
One of the most damaging traps guitarists fall into that slows down their improvement is majoring in the minors.
Instead of focusing on what truly matters most for their development right now, they get stuck tinkering on the outsides – obsessing about minor things, instead of doing what needs to be done to get where they want to go.
Why does pretty much everyone fall into this trap?
People tend to be guided by whatever bothers them in the moment. They follow their emotions instead of focusing on what matters. This establishes unproductive & inefficient priorities – often leading to an obsession to the point of excluding what’s most important.
But it gets worse, because most people don’t even know what’s most important at any given point in time.
If we have two different skills (let’s say vibrato and picking technique) and we compare two different guitar players, one should focus on technique, and the other on vibrato.
Both are important, but technique is more important for player 1 to focus on, while vibrato is what player 2 ought to work on.
Every guitar player has a unique combination of factors that determines their majors (and minors) – and it has absolutely nothing to do with what he “feels” like focusing on.
Sometimes improving a weakness is the major thing, other times it’s improving a strength.
Getting your majors right is crucial. Learning to play guitar and determining what to focus on most (the major things) and what to focus on less (the minor things) is a complicated matrix of variables and each guitar player has his own unique matrix of variables.
Therefore, what is major and minor for him is also unique and changes over time as variables change through learning new skills, acquiring new knowledge and becoming fluent with it all.
If one variable is changed, the priority changes and what was major becomes minor and what was minor, may become major. There isn’t a simple formula where X is always more important than Y.

Making Life A Whole Hell Of A Lot Harder On Yourself.
Nothing will kill growth more than majoring in the minors.
Almost ALL frustration and annoyance disappear when you stop majoring in the minors.
In my opinion, not majoring in the minors is THE #1 most important thing you can do for your guitar playing.
Most guitar players are getting way too little from their guitar practice – even if they are taking lessons with a good teacher. Why?
Because for them, practicing guitar looks something like this:
“WHAT should I practice today?”
“Let’s practice some chords, scales, picking technique exercise, improvising, etc.”
If you are a little bit smarter, you also think about HOW you should practice.
For example, you might start slow and gradually speed up, or use speed bursts, tension reduction exercises, practice with one hand only, or try applying what you know over a backing track.
What the majority of guitar players are missing – and where the BIG guitar-playing gains are to be found – is Neuro-Physical Convergence. This is the most crucial of the 3 elements of high-yield guitar practice.
Almost all guitar players don’t know how to do this because 99% of them don’t even know what it is -much less how to use it, why to use it and when to use it.
To make things even worse, most guitar teachers can’t teach it to you either because they don’t know it either.
Even if you’re lucky enough to have a great teacher who tells you exactly what to do (and how to do it), when you are alone at home alone (without your teacher), and have not yet built the right habits, you fall into the trap to constantly distract yourself from the exact, specific aspect of playing your mind should (but hardly ever is) be focused on in that moment.
This is what causes low-yield guitar practice.
What you need in order to continuously make serious guitar playing progress in a very short amount of time is an environment of forced perfection, where you have no other choice but to make massive improvements quickly, and use Neuro-Physical Convergence to continuously and consistently keep you going with no other outcome possible.
Many players evade crucial aspects of their guitar playing which creates debilitating blind spots that hold them back - making everything much harder to learn, practice and play.
Here are some of the most common blind spots:
Music Theory 
When people evade this area, they really don’t know what they are playing, and learning everything else (even technique) is much harder. This is the most common area I see people evading and then they wonder why they can’t play guitar the way they want.
Rhythm & Timing Many people can’t really play in time and don’t even realize it – so they evade this area too, which makes what you play sound bad and not very fun.
Aural Skills When guitar players evade ear training, their guitar playing potential stays locked in a tiny box – preventing them from fully using the other skills they do have.
Phrasing Without great phrasing, you will always sound robotic and not like your favorite players, no matter how fast you can play and how perfect your technique is. If your phrasing doesn’t sound good, nothing you play sounds good. Evading to work on phrasing sabotages everything else you’re trying to accomplish on the guitar.
People remain stuck not because they don’t have the potential, or the time to practice, but because they have been evading one or more of these important areas for years – even decades!
That’s like trying to eat a bowl of soup with a fork – it can be done, but it takes a very long time!
Why do guitar players do this?
They think it’s all too hard, too confusing or too boring.
But it’s not your fault! The way most teachers, books and online resources teach these things IS hard, confusing and boring!
Once you learn this the right way (and can use it) your progress goes through the roof! What’s the best, fastest and easiest way to do that?
Through training (not simply lessons). Training makes these blind spots disappear because everything becomes easier, clearer, and fun.

No. This event is only happening in 2026.
Can't I figure out how to quickly level up and accelerate my guitar playing growth on my own?
Not really. Can you (eventually – over a looooong period of time) do that without this training? Yes, BUT: it will take many more years of grueling extra (wasted) practice time. It will be much harder. It will cost you much more in terms of time, money (for extra lessons), and frustration (because it will keep you from playing guitar how you want).
I'm already taking guitar lessons with someone else; can't I learn this sort of training from him/her?
No. Even if you have a great teacher who is aware of the specialized training process required to become a complete guitar player (hint, most aren’t), and you have all the necessary pieces ... when you are home alone practicing, you won’t form the habits to follow through on this training process.

Will this work for my style?
Yes. Your style doesn’t matter. We’ve trained guitar players in metal, blues, classic rock, jazz, fusion & classical styles. We trained acoustic players, bass players, as well as 7 & 8-string guitar players.
The training process is exactly the same.

How much time do I need to practice to attend this event?
Most guitar players who come here practice between 30-90 minutes per day. (Only a few consistently practice longer than that.)
That said - at this event, you will practice guitar a minimum of 8 hours per day – for 3 days.
So you should plan to increase your practice time to an average of 60 minutes per day in the 2-3 months before the event. This prepares your mind (and your finger calluses) for long days of playing during your training.
Can I attend Level Up! The Complete Guitar-Playing Breakthrough Acceleration Training Week if I have a hand injury and/or a health condition?
What I say below may sound crazy (so be skeptical if you want).
But guitar players with these health conditions & disabilities have been to my events:
- 2 students were totally blind.
- 1 student was legally deaf.
- 2 students had focal dystonia. (They admittedly struggled. But we tailored the training to their ability to play.)
- 1 student was recovering from a recent liver transplant. (He had to wear a special mask over his face during the training.)
- 3 students flew across the country with a wheelchair.
- 1 student had Autism.
- 4 students had Asperger’s.
- 1 student had a terminal heart condition.
