Learn How To Promote Your Band Online And The Key To Effective Internet Band Marketing

Most unsigned bands try to promote themselves online by getting on social media websites where lots of other bands are promoting themselves. Social media websites are ‘a tool’, but they are not ‘THE tool’ in online promotion for bands.

Let’s look at the basic way social media websites work, and then I’ll show you why they ‘don’t work’ in the way that most people believe they do.

Here is the strategy of most unsigned bands on these type of sites:

The first step is; Create a profile and build a page.

The second step is; Invite as many people (and other bands) to be your ‘friends’ as possible.

The third step is; Become ‘friends’ with other people and bands in order to be ‘seen’ on their ‘friends’ list and hope they will be your ‘friend’ in return.

The fourth step is; Repeat steps 2 and 3, forever.

For most unsigned bands the main objective is to be connected with as many people as possible and to be able to show others in the music industry (record companies, promoters, managers, etc.) that they have a big fan base because a lot of people follow them online. Any band who works hard enough can get tens of thousands of ‘friends’ and people to ‘follow’ them on these social media websites. It takes time, but it is not hard to do.

The problem is this, if you think that promoting band online is all about getting friends to follow you, then you are already on the wrong path. Many unsigned bands want to have a record deal and a thriving music career. They think that if they can get 100,000 people to be their ‘friends’ on these social media websites that the music industry will notice and then want to sign them to a record deal.

Fact is, everyone inside the music business already knows that these 100,000+ ‘friends’ are really NO true indication of how popular a band really is. Nobody ever got signed based on the number of people who follow them on social media websites alone. There are ALWAYS other far more important factors involved.

Any record company, promoter, or manager can immediately see just how ‘in demand’ your band really is within minutes. There are various tools the music industry uses to check the true potential your band has beyond the social media websites. The very first thing they will often check is how many ‘different’ people (unique visitors) your website gets each day. You might have lots of ‘friends’ on social media sites, but if your site is not getting a lot of people checking it out regularly, then the music industry will consider your band’s true popularity and potential to be weak.

I’m not saying that you should not be promoting your band online at social media websites. I’m saying that your band’s website is more important. Use social media websites to get people to your website, not simply to ‘make friends’. When your own website gets lots of traffic, THEN you have something to show the music industry that they will be far more interested in, that is the key to effective internet marketing and promotion for unsigned bands who want success.
