Focusing too much on your musical skills and not enough (or at all) on learning how the music business works is a recipe for failure.
This is based on the myth that only the best musicians get the best opportunities.
Following this myth leads you down the same path as countless other musicians who never achieved anything significant in their careers.
Of course, it is important to develop your musical skills, but this is merely the base requirement when it comes to getting a record deal, working with successful bands and gaining other opportunities in music.
Music companies also want to make sure you have business knowledge, live performing skills, a fan base of people who already know you (and buy from you) and the right mindset for long-term success.
Without these (and other) pieces in place, music companies will not offer you a record deal or any other opportunities because you pose too much risk to them.
