Question: I would like to play my own guitar solos...but just don’t know what patterns and stuff to play. When I try to create a guitar solo it never sounds quite right. What can I do to get better at this?

Tom Hess's Answer: Playing your own killer guitar solos requires not only knowledge of general technique and scale/arpeggio patterns, but a good understanding of guitar phrasing. In other words, knowing how to play notes on guitar to create emotion instead of only knowing which notes to play in certain scale patterns, licks or exercises.
