A lot of guitar players use a pick attack that is too weak. Some do so intentionally to get their hands to move faster.
Why you need to pick with power:
Having a weak pick attack leads to sloppy playing and loss of control when you approach your maximum speed. Notes become less articulated and it’s easier to become out of sync and inconsistent.

Here are two things to fix right now in order to play guitar faster and cleaner with a powerful pick attack:
1. Identify and relax tension in your body as you play.
Most guitar players become very tense in their body/hands when they try to play fast on guitar. Focus on picking with very little wasted motion, while keeping your body as relaxed as possible.
2. Dig the pick a little deeper into the trenches of the strings.
Holding the pick very close to the tip takes away your power. Digging the pick slightly deeper into the trenches of the strings articulates the notes harder with no extra effort on your part.
